How To Make Matcha

Wondering how you can make the best matcha tea or latte? This step by step guide is here to help. Whether you're at home or at the campsite, we highly recommend investing in a premium matcha tea powder. One that is certified organic and ceremonial grade like our Sunnyday matcha. This will not only lead to the best taste, but you will also reap all the health benefits that matcha has to offer.

Step 1 heat your water

Boil filtered water and let it rest for about 1 minute. Matcha is a delicate tea, so we want to avoid using boiling water, which may burn the matcha powder and lead to a bitter cup. If your matcha tastes bitter, try again with slightly cooler water.

Step 2 add your matcha

Add roughly 2oz of your hot (but not boiling) water to your cup and gently shake one scoop (1/2 tsp) of matcha powder into the heated water. Pro tip, sift your scoop through a matcha strainer that you place above your cup. This will create a very fine consistency that leads to easy whisking and no clumps. Use two scoops (1 tsp) for a double shot.

Step 3 create your matcha shot

Use your Sunnyday electric whisk to break up any clumps that remain on the surface, submerge the end of the whisk in the water, and turn it on. To ensure that you get a clump free drinking experience, take your time and move the whisk around the cup. Give it 45 seconds or so until you have a smooth clump free matcha shot.

Step 4 add some sweetness

This step is optional, but our team loves to make our matcha lattes with a scoop of honey, dash of vanilla extract, and a pinch of cinnamon. Whisk briefly to mix. You can use any sweetener you want or none at all, the choice is yours!

Step 5 make it a tea or latte

For hot drinks, you can add more hot water for a classic matcha tea or warm milk of your choice for a matcha latte (use the electric whisk on the warm milk to create a silky frothy texture). For iced drinks, you can pour your matcha shot over ice and add room temp or cold filtered water for a iced matcha tea or add cold milk of your choice for an iced matcha latte.

See you outside,
